What is Certamen?
|
Certamen is a quiz-bowl style game for students that are interested in classical civilizations. Students, in teams of 4, will be asked questions based on ancient history, languages, and cultures. There are 3 levels of certamen, Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Fall Forum: October 19th, 2024. UNCG
Regional Winter Competition: January 11th, 2025. Thales Rolesville
Qualifiers: February 8th, 2025
NCJCL Certamen Semifinals/Finals: March 7-8th, 2025. Davidson College.

A note from your Certamen Chair:
Salvete omnes! A few notes from the Certamen chair.
1) We are asking all sponsors who plan to register a Certamen team at our state qualifiers in February to submit 5 questions for potential use in this year's tournament. Please submit your proposed questions using this Google Form. The form has links to documents that will assist you in choosing a topic and formulating your questions. I would like to receive questions as soon as possible; I will accept question submissions until January 17th.
The writing team will consider all submissions but may need to change phrasing in the editing process. Please remember that submitted questions may not ultimately be used in the final question set.
2) January 11th Certamina!
We are happy to invite all who are interested to participate in one of our Certamen events on January 11th. Please register for the site which is most convenient to you; registration should be submitted by January 8th. There is no fee, and we'll be in touch as the event gets closer about lunch arrangements. Syllabus information for both tournaments is found in the registration forms.
